On April 28, 2026, President Mitsuo Ochi of Hiroshima University(HU) visited the New Cairo campus of the Egypt-Japan School(EJS) in Cairo, Egypt, together with H.E. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Hiroyuki Tsuneishi, President and Representative Director of SPRIX Inc. Executive Vice President for Global Initiatives Shinji Kaneko and Professor Kazuhiro Kusahara of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences also joined the visit.
During the visit, the delegation was warmly welcomed through hands-on learning activities by the students, including clay-based experiential learning and life skills education programs. The delegation received an explanation of the educational activities practiced at the Egypt-Japan School, which are based on the principles of Japanese-style education, and observed classes combining standard subjects with "Tokkatsu"(special activities). The delegation also visited programming and AI education classes for fifth-grade students and received explanations regarding initiatives such as coding exercises and related activities.
President Ochi described the Egypt-Japan School as "an advanced educational model that integrates the philosophy of Japanese-style education with Egypt's vision for development," and expressed his expectations for the steady expansion of educational cooperation between Japan and Egypt. In addition, SPRIX President Hiroyuki Tsuneishi highly praised the students' proactive engagement in AI and programming education, as well as the school's innovative educational practices.
The visit also included exchanges of views with Japanese supervisors responsible for school management and Egyptian teachers, through which the delegation gained a deeper understanding of the current state of implementing Japanese-style education in Egypt and the challenges associated with teacher training.
On the same day, HU concluded a trilateral agreement with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt and SPRIX Inc. on the implementation of a pilot program for Egyptian primary school teachers. The visit also provided an opportunity to confirm the concrete development of educational cooperation based on this agreement.
Going forward, the Egypt-Japan School(EJS) is expected to play an even more significant role as a leading model symbolizing educational cooperation between Japan and Egypt, contributing to the further deepening of bilateral educational collaboration and the development of next-generation human resources in both countries.
